Biking on Vacation–LGRAB Summer Games 3

Posted on August 3, 2011 by greaseragmpls

I’m back from a wonderful week visiting with my parents and grandmother in Nova Scotia. HILLY Nova Scotia. So you can guess the theme of my rides in the recent past. One of the really cool things about riding more and more in the past year is the improvement in my skills and my overall strength. Especially on the recent hot days here, it’s hard to feel like I’m any stronger or faster than I ever was, but going back to the same hills in NS one year later, it was admittedly nice that they seem easier than they ever used to. Oh, there’s still one killer hill…of course it’s the last one before the turnoff for my grandmother’s house…but I just keep telling myself that it’s good for me.

Biking to Brier Island Light.

My family bikes a lot now, so it was super-convenient that my family met me in Canada with a car’s worth of bicycles. In addition to an older steel mountain bike that we keep there year-round, I got to ride my dad’s road and mountain bikes. (Also super-convenient: we’re close to the same height and we use the same clipless pedals.) All I needed to pack was my shoes and Minneapolis Bike Love jersey. I did a bunch of hill rides and spent some time practicing cyclocross dismounts and trying to hop over a two-by-four. Biking on vacation: highly recommended.

I’m posting this for the LGRAB Summer Games. Are you playing along too? Of course, even if you’re not formally participating, it’s just one more reason you should ride your bike a lot this week.

Graphic that reads: I'm playing the LGRAB Summer Games. You can win sweet prizes, too. Join me! letsgorideabike.com
